♪♫” I’m a Lumberjack, and I’m okay. I sleep all night and I work all day.” ♫♪ If you sang that in your head, you know of one of the most influential comedic troupes to ever hit the stage. This also means you will probably be as excited as (BURMA!) I was when I heard that the fantastic Monty Python members are doing a live stage show!!!
Oh yes, you read that one right. Fans of Monty Python, our day is coming! July 1, 2014 at London’s 02 Arena is the date and place where history will be made. The Python’s came together last for 1983′s filming of Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life. If you’re not aware of what Monty Python has done for comedy, think of what The Beatles did for music and you’ve got the handle of it.
Eric Idle, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and Terry Jones will come together for a one night only show, but a tour is not off the table. Vacant from the lineup is late Python member Graham Chapman, who died in 1989 from Cancer. Eric Idle is quoted with saying “We would only do a reunion if Chapman came back from the dead. So we’re negotiating with his agent.” In true Python fashion, I expect there to be an urn in view containing Chapman’s “ashes”. At least what was left that didn’t end up in the dust buster. Also, a cool little bit of info is that there are 6 asteroids named after Python members and one is 9617Grahamchapman. Fantastic, no?
Called a “final reunion. Sort of”, will be televised, so no need of losing your head if you’re unable to see it live, although that would fulfill one of the requirements of my Bucket List. However, if you’re one of the lucky ones that can attend said live event, the tix go on sale November 25th. I can’t imagine it wouldn’t sell it in a crazy short time, so pick one of your favorite silly walk and be on your way!
Idle, who will direct the reunion, said “If we left it too long, it would be too late.” John Cleese added that there will be a twist to the favorites, “People really want to see the old hits, but we don’t want to do them in a predictable way.” If you’re announcing a Monty Python reunion, how do you make the announcement? Why you have Warwick Davis emcee the press conference. “And now for something completely different.”
